Operating under Edmund Rice Education Australia, Gympie Flexi Learning Centre is a high school alternative for teens with needs not addressed by standard schools. This project involved the design of a new, purpose-built campus. Collaboratively with the Architect, School staff and students, the final design was agreed upon through the presentation of multiple concept presentations. The result was a majority vote for a pop art inspired finishes selection, dynamic and flexible spaces and exterior finishes that looked “too funky to be a school”. The result is a sharp and dynamic building that stands out in the landscape with inviting, open, indoor and outdoor spaces purpose built for young adults and the local climate.
